Russia's largest private gas producer Novatek is interested in participating in projects on the shelf of the Russian Federation in the long run, but in the current economic situatuion is not true, told reporters CEO Leonid Michelson. "Today or tomorrow it's probably not actually, but in the future - of course," - he said, when asked, wondering whether Novatek access to offshore projects. The law limits the number of companies that can perform work on the shelf of Russia. Admission has only state-controlled companies with offshore experience of at least five years. In fact, work on the shelf of Russia is limited to "Gazprom" and "Rosneft".
The head of the Ministry of Russia Sergey Donskoy said earlier that the Russian government may spring and summer of this year to consider the admission of private companies to work on the Arctic shelf. In turn, the Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that the Ministry of Energy is currently working on a request to consider the criteria for admission of private Russian oil and gas companies in the exploration and development of offshore fields.
