EITI Secretariat calls to Ukraine to activate steps for preparation of the First Report

During the meeting with stakeholders the head of the Secretariat of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Jonas Moberg (Jonas Moberg) and Regional Director Richard Dion (Richard Dion) agreed to make their best efforts and actions that Ukraine managed to publish its first report in October 2015, although the stick this deadline will not be easy.
Energy Minister Vladimir Demchishin during a meeting with Mr. Moberg reiterated the readiness of the Ministry of Energy and Mines to work on the implementation of the EITI. It should be noted that in the near future it is planned to sign an agreement with the World Bank and begin the necessary procedures to find an independent administrator.
During the meeting, the Multilateral stakeholder group, which was held with the participation of representatives of the Secretariat of EITI, Regional Director Richard Dion, who introduced step by step plan of action for the next few months, which should realize Ukraine to make it in time to prepare a report. Representatives of the Ministry of Energy reported at what stage is the preparation of a draft resolution of the CMU and the draft law on transparency in the extractive industries, the adoption of which should set clear rules for companies and governments in reporting on EITI standard.
All parties agreed that it is necessary to establish even closer communication and cooperation with the government and third parties to ensure rapid passage and adoption of normative legal acts.
Jonas Moberg also discussed the possibility of adopting the necessary legislation with MPs. Representatives of the Parliament, in particular from the Bloc Poroshenko and Selfhelp assured readiness to support initiatives to enhance the transparency of the mining industry, however, noted that such initiatives should be implemented in the same way the Association Agreement and the EU directives.
During the conference on the embodiment of EITI in Ukraine, which was supported by the International Fund "Revival", the representatives of EITI Secretariat stressed the importance of public participation in the EITI, accelerate reforms in Ukraine in the near future, including in the mining sector.
PWYP program director Stephen Gilbert (Stefan Gilbert) urged the public not to focus only on multilateral groups as an instrument implementing EITI, expanding exposure tools, and introduced a number of information resources that allow the public, in particular journalists more actively monitor players in the mining sphere of Ukraine to conduct investigative journalism.
Vladislav Deyneko, coordinator of the Association "EnergoTransparentnost", presented the main points of the communication strategy EITI, which now works enough separate working group within the framework of the project with the support of GIZ.
Also during the short seminar, which was held after the conference, journalists, experts and companies shared specific suggestions how you can make Yoichi more understandable, accessible and effective.
